ALMoS is a wonderland, a fantastical jewelled treasure trove in Mid Wales and houses a glittering selection of artist sculptor Andrew Logan’s signature works: jewellery, original costumes and memorabilila from his Alternative Miss World, the 4m tall Cosmic Egg, a ‘shrine’ to the late Divine and much, much more.

Andrew Logan has been working magic with shattered shards of broken glass (“it has an energy like no other material, the humble grain of sand transforms to glamourous glass”), found objects, jewels and sparkle, creating dazzling artworks for over 40 years. From tiny ear-rings, shoes and figures, to huge scale Eggs, Moons, Suns via sensitive and remarkably life-like portraiture, his work is playful and intriguing, breath-taking and wonderous. To walk into the Museum is to enter another world, a place of joy and possibilities.

Andrew's legendary, influential Alternative Miss World ('a surreal art event for all round family entertainment' explains Andrew) began in 1972. On Saturday 20 October 2018, with the theme of Pyschedelic Peace, Shakespeare's Globe, London hosted the most recent Alternative Miss World. Andrew appears as split-down-the-middle host and hostess, a master of ceremonies over the daywear, evening wear, swimwear and personality interviews of the entrants. This is a competition about transformation, not beauty - anyone can enter (winners include a robot!), all judged on poise, personality and originality. Past guests, hosts, competitors and judges include Derek Jarman, David Hockney, Zandra Rhodes, Grayson Perry, Divine and Leigh Bowery. Andrew's host and hostess outfits, his sparkling Crown Jewels and thrones, handmade by Andrew for each Alternative Miss World winner, form part of the Museum collection.

ALMoS takes you on a journey through Andrew Logan's work: earliest pieces undertaken whilst an architecture student; those commissioned (Ballet Rambert, GLC); work inspired by friends, family, extensive travels and love for, particularly, Egypt and India; and, of course, the Alternative Miss Worlds. There are musical sculptures, moving sculptures, those concerning royalty, containing the other-worldly and the everyday – all utterly enthralling.

The Museum, shop and cafe are open June to September, Saturdays and Sundays 12noon - 4pm.
Plus Easter Saturday, Sunday and Monday and August Bank Holiday Monday 12 noon - 4pm.
