Mid Wales

Bordered by two National Parks, Mid Wales is known for its wide-open spaces and beautiful scenery. The rural heart of Wales is focussed on sustainability and is a great option for planners seeking a destination for meetings and events that are more than just ‘business as usual’ and allow delegates the space to breathe, think and focus.

One of only 13 locations worldwide to be named a Dark Sky Reserve, the unspoilt beauty of Mid Wales has also achieved UNESCO biosphere status – the UNESCO Dyfi Biosphere. Covering over 2,000 sq. miles the region offers some of Wales’ most charming towns, award winning beaches and Cardigan Bay is home to the UK's largest pod of dolphins.

The rich historical and cultural heritage of Wales is clearly evident in this region with restored Cardigan Castle a hub of Welsh language and culture, the region is also home to the internationally famous Hay Festival celebrating literature in Hay on Wye, which welcomes over 80,000 visitors from around the world each year.

With agriculture and sustainability at its heart, expect to enjoy some of the country’s best local produce – for a very exclusive incentive consider Michelin starred Ynyshir – a 5* restaurant with rooms located near Machynlleth, the site of the first parliament in Wales and considered by some to be the historic capital of the country.

Close by is the world-renowned Centre for Alternative Technology, home to the School of the Environment which can host up to 150 delegates and work with planners to build team building and out of meeting activities unlike any others.

The region boasts a wide range of accommodation including The Metropole in the spa town of Llandrindod Wells for larger meetings. Planners looking for significant scale may also consider the Royal Welsh Showground with a mix of indoor and outdoor exhibition spaces, prestigious halls and pavilions, a grandstand for 4,000 delegates all set in 90 hectares of stunning countryside. A wide range of other venues include country house hotel settings, boutique hotels and heritage venues for corporate away days, team building and smaller meetings.

Mid Wales also offers excellence in academia and research through Aberystwyth University and notably the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Studies (IBERS) which leads global research in this area. Planners seeking a campus experience for events will also find Aberystwyth a strong option – with varied and flexible spaces and a wide range of affordable accommodation.
