Cardiff City Hall case study

Client: The Royal Society of Chemistry Separation Science Group with the Royal Flemish Chemical Society – organised by International Labmate Ltd

Event: HTC-15 conference – 24-26 January 2018

Delegates: 300 international delegates

Background

The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Separation Science Group (SSG) is the largest interest group in the Analytical Division of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Sponsoring a number of conference and symposia throughout the year, HTC-15 covered the latest developments in the field of hyphenated techniques in chromatography and separation technology.

The biennial three-day symposium includes three parallel sessions, short pre-conference courses, a technical exhibition and social and networking events after each day of the conference.

Challenge

With an international delegation it was important that the venue offered excellent transport links across Europe and the organisation sought a prestigious space that could accommodate plenary sessions, breakouts and an exhibition.

Also important was easy access to a range of quality accommodation and off-site venues for social events.

Solution

Cardiff City Hall was chosen due to a combination of the right space, excellent transport links and the cache of this historic building.

The conference and exhibition took place at City Hall and catering included refreshments, lunches and a drinks reception which was hosted in the Assembly Room exhibition space.

A gala dinner was hosted at the nearby Museum of Wales with a drinks reception in the galleries and formal dinner in the main atrium hall. Guests were entertained by Blaenavon Male voice choir – a highlight of the evening with the three-course dinner of all local produce very well received.

City Hall were able to support with their in-house events team and took on the challenge of moving the exhibition space when this needed to be relocated due to the number of vendors exhibiting.

Benefits

  • Prestigious venue
  • High quality nearby accommodation
  • Support from in-house events team
  • Options for social events at the venue and nearby

The venue left an excellent impression for attendees, many of whom travelled from Europe as well as from the UK.

Testimonial

Cardiff proved to be an excellent location to host the 15th HTC conference"
