Supporting your travel planning for business events in Wales and the UK – ETA reminder

We know that many colleagues may be planning or considering a business event in Wales or elsewhere in the UK.  With this in mind, we’d like to share a friendly reminder about the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement, which comes into effect from 25 February 2026. This applies across the UK, including travel directly to Wales.

An ETA is required for eligible travellers who do not need a visa for short stays in the UK and who do not already hold a valid UK immigration status. This also applies to passengers travelling to Wales or transiting landside through the UK.

Please be aware that travellers who are required to hold an ETA but do not have one will not be permitted to board a flight, train, or ferry to the UK.

Key points

  • The ETA costs £20 (GBP)
  • It allows multiple journeys
  • It is valid for two years, or until the passport expires (whichever comes first)

How to apply

  • Applications must be made using the UK ETA app or via GOV.UK
  • Applicants must use the passport they intend to travel with
  • Applications should be submitted at least three working days before travel

Applying for an ETA is quick and straightforward, and most applications are processed promptly. We recommend checking that travel plans and documentation are in place ahead of time to avoid any last‑minute issues, particularly when planning or delivering business events.

We very much hope to welcome you to Wales in the near future and look forward to welcoming you to experience all that Wales has to offer.
