Business visitors travelling to Wales should be aware of an upcoming change to UK entry requirements.

From 25 February 2026, the UK’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme will be enforced. This requirement applies across the UK, including travel to Wales.

An ETA is required for eligible travellers who do not need a visa for short stays in the UK and who do not already hold a valid UK immigration status. This includes passengers travelling to Wales or transiting landside through the UK.

Travellers who are required to hold an ETA but do not have one will not be permitted to board a flight, train or ferry to the UK.

An ETA costs £16 (GBP), permits multiple journeys, and is valid for two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever is sooner.

How to apply

  • Applications must be made using the UK ETA app or via GOV.UK
  • Applicants must use the passport they intend to travel with
  • Applications should be submitted at least three working days before travel

Applying for an ETA is quick and simple. Most applications are processed promptly.
